Venue and Event Security: Counter-Terrorism Strategies for Live Events, Stadiums, Arenas and Facilities

More counter-terrorism training is essential for the owners and operators of public places of assembly, including sports stadiums and arenas, the Department of Homeland Security has recently announced, amid concerns that terrorists may be planning to strike these "soft" targets. While there is no such thing as 100 percent security, venue operators and event organizers such as SMG and the Athens 2004 Olympics Organizing Committee have undertaken thorough risk assessments and put adequate contingency measures in place in the event of a major terrorist incident.

These best practice security measures will be discussed at WCBF's Security Intelligence latest conference; an important opportunity for companies responsible for staging live entertainment, leisure, public or sports events to discuss practical strategies for preventing and preparing for such attacks.

This will take place on 28-29 October 2003 in Chicago at WCBF's major new conference on Venue and Event Security: Counter-Terrorism Strategies for Live Events, Stadiums, Arenas and Facilities. Click on the link for full details, click here.

Keynote speaker Dr. Peter Ryan, security director, Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games, ATHENS 2004, will examine key security lessons that have been experienced from previous games in Sydney and Salt Lake City, and what the new risks are for venue operators, stadium owners and managers.

This conference has been designed to provide essential information and advice to all of which are increasingly concerned about the threat level to their facilities, buildings and patrons from terrorist attack.

Participants will learn about and discuss best practice security procedures and initiatives, threat levels, risks and future initiatives to improve communications between government intelligence, law enforcement agencies and the private sector.

Other notable speakers include:
Steven Hacker, CAE, president, IAEM
Chris Seiple, executive vice president, GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT
Glenn Mon: SVP stadium and arenas, SMG
Mark Briggs, director of security and front of house operations, GILLETTE STADIUM and NE PATRIOTS
Major General: David Tsur, commander border police, ISRAELI POLICE
Rico Hawkes, director of safety and risk, Clear Channel Entertainment, Motorsports
Robert Solomon, PE, assistant vice president for building and life safety codes, NFPA
