Do you have the ability and moxie to try your hand at impressing the judges and the crowd?

Whether you are a professional or a Backyard Master, we have the challenge for you.

The Rotary Club of Whitby Sunrise is excited to present to you The 2nd Annual Great Canadian Steak Cookoff. Show off your culinary skills and be part of the exciting event happening in Whitby, Ontario this summer.

Admission to the grounds are free. Steak Dinner tickets are available for those who want to sample what could be the best steak in Canada. In addition, there will be live bands at our Main Stage, a Beer Garden, a Kids area, exciting demonstrations and vendors and sponsor giveaways.

Free parking and shuttle will be available from Iroquois Park.

In conjunction with the Whitby Harbour Days, we will also have Tall Ship Cruises and Deck tours, professional Water Ski Shows, and Art in the Park. In the evening after the steak prizes have been handed out, there will be a Nautical Parade of Lights and Fireworks!

Our Centre Stage will include live entertainment and give aways all day.

Come early and stay for the day!

So whether you are a steak-cooker or a steak-eater, we would like to invite all steak lovers for a taste of a mouth watering Canadian steak.

This year we are expecting to cook nearly 1,500 steaks on Whitby’s beautiful waterfront in July. You cannot imagine the smell in the air as nearly 25 grills of all shapes and sizes begin the cook-off.

Be sure and get your tickets early as they will go fast. Tickets will be available in late May, 2009

Events run Friday 4 to 11pm and Saturday 11am through 11pm.

The actual steak cookoff event will take from 3-7pm with dinner being served at 6pm.

The Main Stage will run from 11am through dusk with the fireworks running at dusk.

The Steak Cook-off works like this: Grilling teams (backyard chefs, local restaurateurs, service clubs, police and fire services, etc) will be provided with a selection of steaks to cook for the public using their own secret recipes and grilling techniques. During this time they will select what they feel is their winning steak to submit to our panel of celebrity judges. See Cooking Teams for information on entering your own team.

Your steak Dinner Ticket gets you a salad, potato, drink and you get to pick a steak from your favourite steak griller.
