Home County Folk League was formed in 1973 to produce the Home County Folk Festival. Over the past 33 years, the festival has grown and evolved to become one of the few free (no admission fee) folk festivals in Canada; attended by up to 150,000 persons from London, region, Ontario and the United States; 6 side stages operating Saturday and Sunday afternoons with bandshell concert 3 evenings; 3 day event in beautiful Victoria Park featuring local, regional and national folk musicians and dancers; a large arts and crafts show; a dining experience with a variety of ethnic and local foods operated by a volunteer board and coordinators with the assistance of about 200 volunteers.
Funds to operate Home County Folk Festival are raised through the vendors fees paid by craft artists and food vendors, grants from the local, provincial and federal governments, goods sold by Home County (t-shirts, programs, ice cream), donations by the audience and corporate sponsorship as well as concerts held throughout the year. Our budget is developed annually and every effort is made to pay all expenses in the year they are incurred and to have funds to prepare for the next festival year as well as to cover the ongoing costs (insurance, office expenses, etc).
